Breakfast with a Veteran

Students, faculty, and staff at Laurel Elementary School celebrated Veteran's Day on Monday, November 12, 2018, with a program called Breakfast with a Vet.  Veterans from our community were invited to have breakfast with students and join them for a Veteran's Day Program.  We were honored to have the Johnson County Honor Guard as our guests.  They presented our nation's flag and a short program on flag history.  Students from Laurel Elementary School had prepared cards for the veterans and were excited to give them to the veterans at the end of the program.  We were delighted to have Megan McEwen, Johnson County Commissioner with us as well.  She sang The Star Spangled Banner and God Bless the U.S.A.  At the conclusion of the program, students created a celebration path for the veterans where they clapped, high-fived and shook hands with our visitors as the left the program.  Students were treated to a book on flag history and U.S.A. pencils from the Johnson County Honor Guard along with a book for our school about The Star Spangled Banner from the Disabled American Vets. What a great opportunity for all of us!  Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service!

Schools Implement the Raptor Visitor Management System

Johnson County Schools is pleased to announce that we will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in all of our schools to strengthen our program of campus safety for students and faculty. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system will allow us to do that. The Raptor system will better allow us to screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff.

Tennessee Serves

First Lady Maria Lee launched her new initiative, Tennessee Serves, designed to promote volunteerism and service throughout the state this summer.  In conjunction with the rollout, she is calling on Tennessee’s elementary students to join her by participating in the #TNKidsServe Summer Challenge, between the dates of June 1-August 1.  Students who log the most hours will be invited to a fall celebration at the Tennessee Residence hosted by Governor and First Lady Lee.

To review the program guidelines, register to participate, or learn about ways to serve visit https://www.tn.gov/firstlady.  What better way to teach children about the joys of service than to get them directly involved?  Thanks for helping us get the word out!
