Welcome to the 2020-2021 academic year. While our last school year provided us with challenges that no one had anticipated, we are ready to put the 2019-2020 school year behind us and look forward to the 2020-2021 year. This year will most likely bring us new and unanticipated hurdles, but I feel sure that together as a strong school and community, we will prevail and come together to make this one of the best school years possible.
As we progress into this challenging year, please know that my number one desire is to maintain a safe and happy learning environment for our students. As a result, your student has the unprecedented opportunity to choose between direct instruction from teachers in the traditional classroom or in a virtual classroom option for those who do not feel comfortable returning to school in person.
As a result of the COVID-19 situation, plans for our school are subject to change rapidly. While this handbook is as extensive as possible, please be reminded as circumstances change and information becomes available, there will be changes that will supersede the contents of this document. Our goal is to communicate those to you clearly in a timely and effective manner.
Our teachers and staff have worked hard throughout the summer to create a rigorous and appropriate learning environment for our students, whether it is in person or remotely. As the principal, I will continue to work hard to make sure that Laurel Elementary is a safe and welcoming environment that meets each student's needs.
To help protect all students' safety, we will be unable to have visitors in the building. Therefore, we ask that you remain involved daily in your child’s progress by talking with him or her about the day, going through the communication binder and staying in touch with teachers and myself either by parent note, phone, email, or zoom. Any time that you have questions, suggestions, or concerns related to your student, please contact either your child’s teacher or myself. You may contact me by phone (727-2685) or by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) at any time.
I look forward to seeing our students and their families soon. This school has been too quiet for too long! Stay healthy and embrace this new year.
